Tis’ the season for itchy sweaters, warm cocoa, and a kiss beneath the mistletoe. With winter comes the ever present need to snuggle up and watch the timeless classics that are holiday romances. The drama, the intrigue, and the occasional “aww” inducing declaration of love.

But, with the overwhelming amount of media out there, it can be hard to decide on what  exactly to watch. You can always try to accomplish a feat and watch everything out there (we all have), but here a guide on the very best places to start:

  1. The Holiday

The Holiday is a timeless classic, starring the ever-talented actresses Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, and heartthrobs Jude Law and Jack Black. It follows Diaz and Winslet as they arrange a home exchange to escape heartbreak during the Christmas season. What they think will be a quiet, uneventful break turns into an unexpected journey of self-discovery, healing, and romance. It’s charming, warm, and endlessly rewatchable, the cinematic equivalent of a cozy blanket.

  1. Holidate

If you want something modern, chaotic, and laugh-out-loud funny, Holidate is your pick. Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey play two strangers tired of family holiday pressure, who agree to be each other’s “holidate”:  a mutually beneficial arrangement with no commitment. Naturally, feelings sneak in. It’s carefree, light, and perfect for a relaxed night in.

  1. Love Actually

A patchwork of intertwined love stories set in London at Christmas, Love Actually remains one of the most iconic holiday romance films of all time. With an ensemble cast (Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley, and more), it explores love in all its messy, beautiful forms, romantic, familial, unrequited, and surprising. It’s funny, heartfelt, and will absolutely leave you misty-eyed by the end.

  1. While You Were Sleeping

Though not strictly a Christmas movie, its warm winter backdrop and heartfelt romance make it a seasonal favourite. Sandra Bullock stars as a lonely transit worker who saves a man’s life, is mistaken for his fiancée, and ends up falling for his brother instead. I personally found myself laughing at many of the scenes, and it’s gentle, funny, and carried by Bullock’s irresistible charm.

  1. Last Holiday

If you’re in the mood for something more sentimental, heartwarming and a little bit magical, Last Holiday is a perfect pick. Queen Latifah shines as Georgia Byrd, a shy department-store worker who, after receiving unexpected news, decides to cash in her life savings and live out her dreams on a luxurious Christmas getaway. What follows is a gentle, uplifting story about courage, reinvention, and embracing joy. With snowy scenery, delicious food, and a slow-blooming romance, Last Holiday reminds us that the season is just as much about self-love as it is about finding love with someone else.

Whether you’re in the mood for tear-jerking declarations, lighthearted chaos, or love found when you least expect it, these films offer the perfect escape into something soft and warm. So grab your blanket, pour your cocoa, and let yourself get swept up in the season, one love story at a time.
